Homosassa Reds Are In School

I spoke with Tim at McRae's Bait House in Homosassa this afternoon. He was telling me that fishing is excellent and only going to get better as the month goes by. This morning, a slot sized snook was caught from the dock behind the bait house. A half dozen tarpon have also been hooked and 'jumped' from the same dock in the last few days. A lively mullet and heavy tackle are all you need to join the fun. Speckled trout fishing is picking up around the north side of Ship Rock. Live shrimp, jigs, the D.O.A. Deadly Combo, and jerk baits are all effective on trout. Redfish are the forming huge school in the shallows around St. Martins Island. Schools of up to 1,000 fish can be found in only a few inches of water. These fish are very aggressive and will immediately hit gold spoons, Coty Jigs or almost any bait put in front of them. Tim tells me to make sure that you use a good leader because when you hook one fish, the others around it will try to take the bait from it. For more information contact;
