Sea Trout Are Where It's At

Fishin Reports

Sea-Trout fishing is where it's at. Trout have been very active on the grass flats. Casting jigs or a fly has been bring fish to the boat, 30 fish days or better are common with sizes ranging from 12 to 26 inches. Redfish can be found in the skinny stuff on the flats during the high tide. Look around docks and sandy potholes at low water tossing a 1/4 ounce jighead and shrimp combo, when you get one there will be more. Moving into spring Mackerel, Bluefish and Bonita will work their way up the coast just ripping apart the bait schools, when it happens on the surface it looks like a pot of boiling water with fish jumping out of the water to catch a baitfish. Very cool. Snook will begin to make their way from the backcountry to the passes for the summer spawn and on the way feeding heavily to put on weight. Water Temp is 66-70.
Snook : Night dock Snookin has been good with white flies, artificial and live baits. Daytime fish points or near mangroves with deep water nearby or around bridges. Fishing at night with a strong outgoing tide has been best.
Redfish : Have been found in small schools. On incoming tides, the fish move up the grass flat to the mangroves and oyster bars. Sand potholes hold fish on the lower tides. Look for schools of Mullet for places to start. Don't over look docks as they will hold fish too.
Seatrout: Drift the grass flats in 1-4 feet of water throwing D.O.A. shrimp, plugs and jigs/jerk baits, flies and topwaters have caught some of my largest Seatrout in the morning, that's a fun way to catch any fish in my book. 30 fish days are the norm.
Others: Sheepshead are around docks, bridges and rock piles. A small piece of shrimp on a #1 circle hook, with some lead will do the job.
