Vary Your Baits To See What They Like

3-10-2009 - Spring? Can it be true?

Tampa Fishing Charters
I know that it isn't technically spring time yet but you couldn't have any better weather than we've been having the last several days. The fish are responding well to the recent warm trend. Trout are all over the place, redfish are schooled up and bait is everywhere as of today. This is going to be short report as I am worn out and I have 6 more charters in the next 6 days so I need to get some sleep.

I've been on the same couple of schools of redfish for about a week now and they've been eating anything from jigs to hard plastic jerkbaits to live bait to cut bait. They just seem to prefer one or the other depending on the day and depending on the school of fish you're on. You just kind of have to throw the whole tackle box at them and see what they like best. Once you've got them chewing, you've got to get them while the getting is good as the bite doesn't last more that a couple of hours and that bite has been coming around the high tide.

Trout have been biting well although the average size has dropped a little bit form a couple of weeks ago. They have been eating shrimp and sardines pretty regularly. They've eaten artificial lures but not as readily as I would like.

The weather forecast looks to be as good as it gets for the next week or so. Hopefully we won't have a cold front come through. If one doesn't, look for the fishing to remain pretty good. The snook will also turn on if the weather stays like it was today for any length of time.
