Summer fishing is hitting its peak. The bite has been really good for those that have been able to compromise with getting up early to avoid some of the afternoon rain. Flamingo is seeing a great redfish bite on the flats. Snook fishing is good close to the mangrove shorelines. And snapper and trout is also another area that has been successful. Tarpon is coming in behind. We have actually hooked some really big fish while out fishing. And also caught some monster trout while redfishig. We have been using scent baits like those from Fishbites and Gulp. Bring sharp worm hooks to rig these weedless because there is a lot of grass. You can go from shrimp to jerkbait or shads and do really well with this simple method of casting. Use split shot or worm bullet weights to adjust level.
In Biscayne Bay I have been fishing the flats and finger channels near Stiltsville and to the south. There have been bonefish, sharks, and permit on the flats. The finger channels have some big barracuda on the edges where the current pushes the bait. On the bottom you can catch mutton, mangrove, and hogfish snappers. Stalking the flats requires the right tide and a lot of patience these days but the rewards are awesome. Don’t forget to flats close to the mainland. Sometimes they are vacant of fishermen and full of fish.
For late afternoon or evening fishing I would consider the cuts or bridges in the area. Make sure to bring live bait. And some strong line and poles. Give me a call and let’s get out on the water.

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report March 2011
Well, guess everyone is ready for a fishing report. My apologies for being behind on the report, but fishing has been so good I am wore out at the end of the day (isn't that a shame)
The fishing has been good with nice catches of trout, red fish, pompano, mackerel, bluefish, snook, etc. A couple days ago we had the biggest trout of the season (on my boat)...a 24 3/4" gator trout. Now that's a nice big trout. We are catching some nice big ones, most around 18-19 inches. These fish are fun to catch and great to eat. It is nice to be able to take them to a restaurant here in town (or take home) to fix for your dinner as the table fare is great and you can't get any fresher than that.
The tarpon are here but are kind of a hit and miss (my opinion) The weather has a lot to do with where there are and also being able to see them. I guess everyone knows that I prefer the small ones (in Everglades City) as they are more predictable and are a blast to catch without the long hours of fighting one.
However if you do prefer the big boys I have 2 dates left for tarpon charters in Boca Grande....the 26 of May and the 2 of June. This is the time that the tarpon are dependable enough to tournament fish and also recreational fish for them. So if you would like to fish for the big boys in Boca Grande give me a call (239-695-2029) and I will get you booked in.
The weather down is here is beautiful with high in the low 80's and nights in the mid 60's. Really makes the fish turn on as the bait fish are flowing onto the flats and this brings on a great bite of all fish including cobia, tarpon, sharks, mackerel, big trout, etc. When the nights are steady in the 60 with no 50's any longer the offshore snook will start to flow in while the snook from the black water will start to move toward the passes. This should start happening any day now as I write this we will have nothing by nights time temperatures in the 60's for the week.
Last week I saw my first swallow tail kite....this means that winter is over and spring is here....yeah we get to put up the coats and sweaters and get out our summer clothes.
Okay looks like it's gonna be a great spring and summer so it's time to start making those vacation plans. GREAT FISHING IN THE EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK/10,000 ISLANDS

Summer is defiantly over as the hot days are gone until next year.
Today as I write this the wind is calm, the high was 77 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Nice day on the water? you bet'cha!!!
The cold fronts are starting to sweep downwards to South West Florida. With this is mind the fishing is starting to change. The good news is fishing is good. The water has cooled a little causing the fish to be more active while moving some of the migrating fish into this area. There is also a lot of bait-fish moving in. This is the time of year that we start catching what we call our mix bag. For the next few months we will be catching redfish in numbers. Some nice snook, fat trout, big pompano (up to 4 lbs) mackerel, bluefish, even catch cobia up on the flats while trout fishing. We will also be catching sheepshead, black drum, snapper, flounder yellowtail jacks, ladyfish and whiting. As usual I will be fishing on the flats, in the rivers, around the mangroves and along the beaches. This time of year with the occasional cold front passing is what determines where we fish and what we fish for. For example if we have a front come thru the night before your fishing trip, chances are that we won't be on the flats fishing for trout, as the front will cause the water to mud up and this usually results in a lot of fishing and not much catching. So we will want to go where we will do some catching. Maybe in the river mouths, maybe fish some of the deep holes, or maybe along the mangrove islands. Wherever and whatever it takes to put us on fish. Here in the Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands we have a lot of places to fish regardless of the wind and weather.
With the holidays just around the bend it is easy to forget to make your fishing plans until the last minute. This sometimes leads for disappointments when you can't fish with whom you want or when you want. Anyway, don't forget it is always a good idea to reserve your day as soon as you have an idea when you might want to fish.

Some nice things are happening.
Soon the redsnook tournament will be over and things can get back to normal. ‘Nobody fishing and the whole place to ourselves. There’s a few tarpon in the river, a few big ones in that cove across from you know where.
Tonight is the first cold front, there should be reds. That is to say, more reds.
New palms, thanks to Bill L., are taking hold in the yard. Gossia Maya, Hurricane Palm, Cat Palm, and more. I’m trying to raise a flowering hedge along the southern edge where we launch. But Captain John Stark keeps running over everything I plant, trying to launch his boat in the pre-dawn darkness by backing up to the water. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, the helical steering route that Captain John takes through my neighbors yard and over the hedge, …crushing all seedlings, …well, …I guess, …I could understand how someone could say, …you know what I mean? …That there might be something wrong with that.
I haven’t found them myself yet, but there are some marauding schools of juvenile snook in the back of beyond. You have to pole forever and then catch lots of 17 inch snook. I know where to look.
We just blew through Teal Season. Me an’ Lindsay limited out in that tropical storm. We paddled in the darkness through the jungle wilderness in tiny canoes to One Mile Prairie. It was awesome.
Snipe season is coming up.
The second duck season too.
There’s small tarpon.
I will guide for food.

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report July 6/10
Fishing still remains good. The afternoon rain isn't affecting us as it usually starts raining after we get in. I am doing quite a few 3/4 days to make sure we do however get in before the rain.
Tom Pusateri and his family came to fish in the Everglades over the 4th of July weekend. They wanted to catch a mess of trout for dinner then try to land a tarpon or two. We did just that....we caught our limit of nice trout up to 22 inches....then to jump 7 tarpon landing 1, so i guess the tarpon won that day.
July Orick and her 2 daughters wanted to fish while the guys played golf, so we did a 3/4 day. They also wanted a mess of fish to eat and try their skill on tarpon. Between the 3 girls, they caught trout and lots of them, snook and jumped 5 tarpon landing 1. Way to go girls.
Fishing will continue to be good through out the summer months....even with the rain around we will be jumping and landing tarpon, snook, trout and many more species.

No Oil In The Everglades!

Oil Spill....seems to be on everybody's mind lately and so it should.
Has it affected the Everglades? NO
Can we smell the oil? NO
Can we see it on the water? NO
Is it effecting the fishing? NO
Remember Florida is a long way from Louisiana and we are down at the southern part of the state and 100+ miles from the gulf stream.
So with this in mind....how is the fishing? It is catching as usual, with Permit, Cobia, Redfish, Trout, Pompano, Mackerel, Snook, Shark and there are still some Tarpon around. The bait is here for the summer which also helps keep the larger fish here and makes summer fishing good.
The Snook are in the Passes, Around the Islands, in the River Mouths and out on the Near-Shore wrecks/reefs.
The Redfish are Around the Islands, Along the Beaches and in the River Mouths.
The Trout, Pompano, Cobia, Permit Sharks, Mackerel are on the Flats and also out on the Near-Shore wrecks/reefs.
The Tarpon are in the Passes, Backwater Bays, and off the Outside Beaches.
We all are concerned about how this catastrophe will affect our beautiful natural habitat in the Everglades and how it will affect the fishing. It is still an unknown but what is known is that we are open for fishing, open for fun and open for charters!

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report June 10/2010
For the last 3 weekends I (Capt Becky Campbell) have been Fishing in the WPTTS (womens professional tarpon tournament series) in Boca Grande.
Team Aeon/Outtaline is the WINNER of week #3 (June 5) with 197# Tarpon.
Team Aeon/Outtaline members are Becky Campbell, Debra Gell, Ginger Campbell, Andy Peduzzi (Captain) and Jim Phillips (mate).
Here are the final results for Team Aeon/Outtaline
1st place for week #3 with 197# Tarpon
1st place total weight of fish weighed in
2nd place over all (total weight and releases)
6th place total releases
Our 197# Tarpon set a record for the largest caught by a female in the history of this tournament.
This 197# Tarpon is/was huge, and took us all the way to the other side of Boca Grande Pass before I brought it to the gaft. We then took her to the weigh scales where she was weighed and released alive after the marine research took measurements and lab samples for DNA testing.
This is a tournament of 42 teams with 3 female per team. With out a doubt next year it will even be bigger.
We had a great time and can't wait to do this again next year. Go Team Aeon/Outtaline

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report May 16/2010
Fishing is Good in the Everglades
Tarpon are finally here and seem to be everywhere....in the passes, on the flats, along the beaches...everywhere. If you want to catch one of these Big guys, they will put you to your max...sometimes taking up to an hour to land...can you do it or will the tarpon win?
We are also catching nice size redfish, actually at the top of the slot size. These fish are a lot of fun to catch and good to eat also.
Plenty of Trout and some Pompano too. Mackerel are in the 4-6 lb range and put up a good fight.
Snook..did someone say snook..yes we are catching snook of all sizes around the islands.
May is a great time of year and probably one of my favorite months to fish. The summer rains haven't started yet, but they are sure to come....
So come down and let's go fishing, cause the fishing is great and so is the weather.

Everglades Fishing Report 4, 2010
Here we are into the middle of April already...finally, we are just starting to feel like things are starting to get back to normal from an unusually cold and windy winter. The fishing has been good even with the wind blowing 20-25 on many days. I was talking with several other captains and one of them said he couldn't find any trout in places he normally fished, but there had been nothing normal about this winter and spring so with that in mind it was just a matter of hunting for them and not going back to our same ole spots. However in the last couple weeks, the fish are starting to be where they normally would be for this time of year. We are catching lots of big trout....the biggest on my boat so far is 26"...with lots of fish over 20 inches. These fish are really fun to catch and put up a good fight.
While we are fishing for trout we are also catching pompano, large permit, small cobia, sharks, mackerel, blue fish, blue runners, ladyfish, and jacks. Needless to say there is quite a lot of action to keep you and your captain busy while fishing out on the flats. When the tide is right we are also catching redfish, black drum and snook.
Fishing will continue to be good and even get better as summer approaches. May is the time of year we start to catch our big snook as they start to get into schools for their spawn.
The evening rains haven't started yet, but are sure to come in time. Unless we have a dry summer....never know.

There are a few reds though, you have to stay dedicated but you might get a shot, here’s one John Crockett caught today (below,) we also hooked a snook, a nice one, John just played it lightly while we admired it through a couple of runs before giving it just enough slack to release itself. We’re also using intermediate lines and tips for casting into deeper places looking for other species, mackerel, trout, jacks, anything that wants to come out and play.

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report Jan 28/2010 after the Cold Blast
Okay here were go.....It has been one heck of a ride with the cold weather we had here in South Florida. We actually beat records set back in 1927. Okay that's a long time ago, so what do we do now. Well, Mother Nature can be really cruel sometimes and this time she did her job and did it well. You know that fishing is all a matter of personal feelings, and that's what makes every guide (person) different as it is what he/she believes in according to his/her experience on the water. Well, I believe that Mother Nature know what she is doing. That whatever she did/does she did/does for a reason. Maybe there is not enough food so she has to thin out her stock. Maybe she has a lot of weak or sick fish that just aren't going to make a strong future stock. Okay then how does she take care of this.....with Red Tide or below normal temperatures is a couple ways. I really think that because of this we will have a better, stronger stock now and with in the next couple years to come. Okay what did I see during these record temperatures, quite a lot of big snook, huge snook to say the lease, baby tarpon, and lots of small bait fish, like pinfish, silver jenneys, ladyfish etc. Oh did I say catfish....lots of dead catfish.
So, what has the fishing been like since the cold. Actually it has been pretty good. The fish are not (my opinion) in there normal places, so we just have to hunt for them a little harder. I really believe that a lot of big snook went offshore and they will be back inshore at their normal time to come inshore.
I will say that the fish have quite a appetite since the cold. We are catching Redfish, and Large Trout. Every Redfish I (customers have caught) since the cold have been keepers and are fat at that. We are catching limits on Redfish and also Trout. The cold didn't bother sheepshead or blackdrum either, at least I didn't see any dead. Haven't really caught any, but haven't tried either, as my customers have been happy with Redfish and Trout. Oh, I almost forgot there are also Grey Trout and Sugar Trout to help in the table food and fun in catching.
The weather is back to normal and it is so beautiful. Today was another chamber of commerce day with temp in the low 80's and clear sky's.
