Charlotte Harbor Clearing

I spoke with Robert at Fishn' Frank's Bait & Tackle in Port Charlotte this morning. He tells me that the high winds of last weekend and early this week has the water churned up pretty badly. He spoke with a local captain just before I called though, who told him that the east side of the bay has improved to about 6' of visibility already. Even with the dirty water the snook fishing is phenomenal at night! Hot spots for snook are the El Jobean Bridge in the upper bay and the Placida Trestle North of Boca Grand Pass. Live shrimp, pinfish, and greenbacks are the best baits for snook. Inside of the bay, a good number of very small bluefish are being taken along with a surprisingly large number of big spanish mackerel, up to 5lb's. Few redfish are being reported with the dirty water, but large numbers of migrating tarpon are in the bay. Robert tells me that he has seen a school of at least 500 fish. They have not moved into Boca Grand Pass yet, but Robert expects this to happen in about seven days. Offshore there are still some kingfish around. The water temperature has dropped 5 degrees since last Friday so this should extend the kingfish season. For more information contact;
