Recreational fishing for spoted sea trout in the southern region of the state, and red snapper in the gulf region of the state are closed as of November 1st. Spoted sea trout season will reopen in the southern region on January 1st, 2008. The FWC has not decided when to reopen fishing for red snapper in the Gulf, but will most likely follow Federal regulations which are now set at April 21st. The new snapper regulations are expected to be finalized by February, 2008.
For Spoted Sea trout, the southern region is defined as a line extending from the Flagler/ Volusia County line on the Atlantic coast to Fred Howard Park, 1.17 miles south of the Pasco/ Pinellas county line in the Gulf. The Gulf region is defined as state waters from the Florida/ Alabama boarder to the Dade/ Monroe County line ( West of the Florida Keys).
