Wrestling With Redfish

Joe called me about a trip for he and his old high school buddies. They are all anglers so I set out a game plan to chase after redfish. My favorite shallow water game fish. Due to a sluggish tide, it took a little while for the bite to turn on but it did turn on and we spent the second have of the day wrestling with redfish.

We started off the day looking for redfish up in New Port Richey. It took about 10 minutes to find them and they were bunched up in one tight school of about 100 fish. The only problem was that they acted like they had somewhere to go and they must have been late because they were in a hurry. they rushed by the boat never to be seen again.

Oh well, having to switch gears isn't all that unusual so we decided to try our hand at some trout. We made a run South to fish the spoil islands. After toying with a few small trout I asked if anybody would like to try their hand at some reds again. Everybody was game so off went went. When we got to the spot, someone was sitting on it but they didn't stay long. When we slid in to the flat and threw baits out, it didn't take long before we had the first redfish to the boat. The bite was pretty good for about an hour and everybody got in the game.

All of the trout today were caught on Exude RT Slugs on 1/8th oz. jigheads and all of the redfish were caught on live pinfish. Look for the fishing over the next week to be even better as we should have several days where the high temps are in the mid 70's. That should really turn the bite on.
