Fall Turns Fish On!

Feels Like Fall

10/16/2007
Hello everyone. Fall is here. How do you like the change in temperature? Around here it is a nice welcome. It has stimulated the fishing, that's for sure. Especially, the migrating species. Trout and Mackerel have turned on in great numbers. It feels great out there in the morning, a cool breeze, then the warm sun by mid morning. Now that's Florida! The fishing is pretty good too. The tides, once again, are a factor in the success of my trips. Redfish are beginning to school on the flats and are eating well on the incoming and outgoing tides. Spotting the schools move can be tricky at times so a handful of chum baits help to locate the fish if you are in the right area. Dead baits are a favorite of mine also. Just cut a bait in half, throw it out and wait. A Red will usually hunt it down and take off with it. Also, floating live Pinfish or Sardines under a cork has been working well.Snook are staring to eat a bit better. The drop in water temps has reminded them that winter is around the corner, so they are going to eat through the fall, preparing for the cooler months. They are making their way back the main shoreline, but there are still some along the inside of the barrier islands. Sardines are the ticket for these fish.Trout are lining up on the incoming water. 5 ý 7 feet of water seems to be the best. Be ready for some Ladyfish, Blues and Macs to hit the baits as well. This is great action while waiting for the tide to rise enough for Redfishing. As I mentioned before, the mackerel are moving back to the South from the Northern regions and are starting to invade the passes and flats as well as schooling offshore. These fish are a lot of fun on the light tackle and are very cooperative. Long shank hooks are a big help in landing these fish. It prevents them from cutting the leader if you are not using wire.It feels like fall. Don't wait to book your trip! Call or e-mail me anytime.
