Florida's East Coast Fishing Outlook for October 13, 2007

Fall has finally arrived on the Indian River Lagoon Coast of Florida, delivering cool and clear skies to the Space Coast. Subsequently, falling water temperatures have set the stage for some awesome fishing as the fall patterns settle in.
This past week I enjoyed charters on all three of the lagoons for which the Indian River Lagoon system is comprised, and we were rewarded with some fine catches. Water levels on the entire lagoon system are currently high, so our success this week was realized primarily through blind casting both bait and lures in areas of concentrated schools of black and silver mullet.

My adventures started out last Saturday where I had the pleasure of fishing a group outing with the Ring Power Corporation. My anglers for the event were Jerry Walker from Jacksonville, and Lew Symmes form Tampa, and both were accomplished anglers from completely different Florida fisheries. Faced with strong easterly winds our tactics were limited to working the eastern protected shorelines, and we ended up catching 9 redfish on RipTide Conley grubs rigged weedless on a #4 Daiichi Bleeding Bait Copperhead hooks, and Storm Chug Bugs.

My next adventure carried me to the Banana River No-Motor Zone where I had the pleasure of fishing with accomplished Lagoon anglers Roland Van Arsdale III, and his son Roland IV. The easterly breezes still prevailed, so we stuck to the east shoreline, managing 5 nice redfish up to 28-pounds, all caught on either live finger mullet or mullet chunks.

On Thursday and Friday I once again enjoyed the occasion to serve on the tournament committee for the Mosquito Lagoon Celebrity Redbone Tournament in New Smyrna. The event is a catch-photo, and release tournament supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Although volunteering for the show required a lot of behind the scene effort, it was extremely rewarding to be part of such a worthwhile charity, and I still managed some time on the water trying to catch a cure for CF.
