Mosquito Lagoon

I spoke with Tom at Doc's Bait & Tackle in Titusville this afternoon. He was telling me that the reds are schooling in the southern part of the Mosquito Lagoon. There are lots of trout around but it is hard to get them to bite. Live bait fish, such as mullet and mud minnows, are the key to getting them to strike. Surf fishing is good. Toms customers are catching lots of pompano and good sized whiting. Offshore, the cobia fishing is starting to slow, but grouper and snapper are biting well. Pinfish work well, but flying fish are the best offshore bait. Tom was also telling me that the crappie fishing is really picking up in area lakes. Just in time for the March 3rd crappie tournament!
