Naples Grouper are Shalow

I spoke with Phil at Captain Pete's Bait & Tackle in Naples this morning. He tells me he has been fishing with Captain Pete in about 50ft of water, west of Marco Island, and catching limits of grouper and lane snapper. They are looking for hard bottom on the depth finder and then watching for fish. After they anchor, sardines and Captain Pete's Kandlefish Lure are accounting for the majority of the strikes. Another area guide reported to Phil that his clients were catching keeper grouper in 35ft of water. They also had another outstanding catch. A 30" flounder was landed at the same spot where they were catching the grouper! Other reports from offshore include 3 permit. Inshore, two 27" snook were caught and released during the children's tournament. There are also a lot of large pompano, 16" - 18", being taken on the grass flats.Live shrimp and pompano jigs are the best baits. For more information contact;
