Naples

I spoke with Phil at Captain Pete's Bait & Tackle in Naples this morning. Phil was telling me that the fishing is really good right now. The pompano bite is very good with some large fish being caught. A 20" pompano was taken last week. Phil tells me that pompano have been consistent in the area for about a year now, so he expects the good fishing to continue. Sand flees and live shrimp are the best baits for pompano. King mackerel are still in the area. Several smaller fish were taken 3-4 miles out over the last few days. Just before grouper season opened up last week, Phil and Capt. Pete went fishing in the Gulf about 23 miles off of Marco Island. Fishing in about 53' of water, they caught many nice lane snapper, two good sized yellowtail snapper, and several keeper sized grouper. They used Capt. Pete's new Kandle Fish Lures in the 3/4 ounce and 1 ounce size, with no bait attached, to catch all of the fish. When Phil tied on the 1 1/2 ounce chrome Kandle Fish lure, trying to get the attention of some kingfish swimming by, he hooked into his largest red grouper ever. A 30" monster!
