Sarasota Beach and Bay are Best

I spoke with Sut at New Pass Grill & Bait Shop in Sarasota this morning. He tells me that the fishing is decent with a nice variety of fish being caught. In Sarasota Bay, redfish and snook are your best bet. Snook season is closed but there is great catch and release action to be had in the bay and on the beach. Look for snook at sun up in the first swash channel on the beach. Live shrimp or greenbacks are the best baits, jigs also work well. Redfish action is good in the bay. Look for reds around docks an oyster bars. Live shrimp is the best bait. Speckled trout action is only fair. Look for trout around the sand holes on the grass flats. A live shrimp either free lined or on a popping cork, or a jig tipped with a small piece of shrimp will catch trout. Tarpon are on the beach. Crabs are by far the best bait for tarpon.
